Woodland Heritage
‘From Woodland to Workshop’ course

NHG Timber are offering scholarships to employee’s of our customers and suppliers to attend the ‘from Woodland to Workshop’ course!

Over the past two years a number of employees from NHG Timber Ltd have taken part in this excellent three-day course, which is organised and run by the Woodland Heritage. It is a unique learning opportunity, which starts by offering an insight and understanding of the whole forestry process from the woodland through to the workshop. With this in mind the course programme moves on to sawn timber and some practical skills, which include accurate measuring, as well as calculation and conversion of timber volumes.

Woodland Heritage best summarises the experience as:
unique three-day training course linking ‘tree growers with wood users’, to broaden horizons and raise awareness by educating participants from the forest through to the workshop and beyond….

Participants are taught some valuable skills for the trade, from identifying various kinds of damage and undesirable features that can be found in logs, to learning the most effective methods of stacking and sticking freshly sawn timber. There is an appropriate amount of time spent in the classroom, along with the opportunity to learn about timber in its home environment... the forest. Without doubt, it is these outdoor sessions that make the course what it is and help bring to life the material that we all work with daily.

This three-day course also offers a valuable opportunity to meet other people from all areas of the industry, as well as students of the trade, whilst encouraging some worthwhile debate in a relaxed, but professional environment. Our employees at NHG Timber Ltd have all agreed that the course is both interesting and informative.

If you, or a colleague would be interested in attending this course with its hands on and highly interactive approach, please contact Woodland Heritage direct on 01428 652159. Alternatively, please feel free to contact our office, and a member of the NHG team would be happy to talk through their experiences with you.

The courses take place in May and September at Whitney Sawmill & Joinery Workshop, Whitney-on-Wye, Herefordshire and The Duchy of Cornwall’s excellent Aconbury Wood. The Woodland Heritage also offer a limited amount of subsidised places for deserving and committed individuals!
