2007 was a record sales year for NHG and somewhat surprisingly and against the industry trend, we have bucked the market and increased sales from the first half of 2008 by TWENTY ONE PERCENT.
The sub prime mortgage crisis continues to create difficult trading conditions in the US and has been felt right across the globe. In Europe, Spain and Ireland have been the worst affected, closely followed by the UK and Denmark. We expect to see some fall out of companies in the construction industry and at the source of supply during the next two years. It may be not before the second half of 2010 that we have a sense of that feel good factor. I do not subscribe to the thoughts of more pessimistic forecasters who believe that it could be 2012-2013 before the world economy improves. With a positive and “can do” attitude entrepreneurs will continue to succeed in spite of current political incompetences.
To follow on our great successes in the Beijing Olympics, my prediction is that in 2009 we will win the ashes, 2010 we will have a new government and win the World Cup, 2011 will witness NHG celebrating 30 years trading, 2012 we will still win more medals than Australia in the Olympics even if on our home patch and some of them will be standing up!
We remain committed to being a global player and year on year we are increasing our overseas sales with our ultimate aim to be the number one trader of Tropical and Temperate Hardwoods across the globe.
This year has marked a special celebration for our Company, which has seen Julian de Wilton celebrate his 25th Anniversary with NHG Timber and colleagues and family joined him on a countryside walk which culminated in refreshments at a local hostelry. Julian has been a pillar of strength in ensuring that clients and suppliers receive a service second to none in the industry with regard to movement of cargo from port of origin to final destination. His attention to detail in shipping documentation, invoicing and payments are quite extraordinary. Over the years he has supported new members of staff in the business and has willingly helped them to resolve challenges that they may have experienced and has shown them the way forward. We all look forward to working with him for the next 25 years!
